My name is Laura Matikaite, I make ceramic sculptures by hand, in my home studio in Coolrain, Co.Laois.

With the help of a throwing wheel and a lot of imagination, I try to create unique pieces that have character and stand the test of time. The forms come alive through an intuitive making process. The sculptures are often made up of several assembled components and finished with glazes I make in the studio.

I focus on elegance, balance and tactility.

My formal educational years have been completed in Abbeyleix FEC in Art, Craft & Design. Co. Laois.

My BA of Honours in Limerick School of Art and Design in Ceramic Design.

A very special semester on Erasmus in Vilnius Academy of Arts, Lithuania.

In 2020 I graduated from, Ceramic Skills & Design, Thomastown, Co. Kilkenny.

For the passed three years I have been building my studio, working from home, up-skilling and started my small business, ‘Laura Matikaite’.

I grew up drawing and making, and it is a big part of my life.

I have always enjoyed experimenting with different materials and fell in love with the versatility of clay. The possibility to create anything I design fulfills my childhood dream of being an inventor.

 Before Buying

Please consider that each piece of ceramics is handmade and may slightly differ in colour and size from the images and description.

I use professional quality ceramic materials to create the work on the wheel and make my own glazes. Although every effort has been made to eradicate ‘imperfections’ during the testing and making process, some variations do occur due to the nature of ceramics, natural variability in materials, process, and the handmade human element.
